Redhawks fall in OVC tournament; Volleyball hires

The Redhawks men’s basketball lost in the second round of Ohio Valley Conference play yesterday, falling to Austin Peay. Southeast lost 76-60.

Anthony Allison led the Redhawks with 24 points in his final game before graduation.

The Redhawks ended the season 10 and 22.

And Julie Yankus will be the next women’s volleyball coach at Southeast. Yankus has spent the last five years at Southern Illinois University–Carbondale, where she served as associate head coach. This will be her first head coaching position.

Redhawks basketball advances to OVC quarterfinals; baseball team wins big

The Southeast Missouri State University men’s basketball team has been missing from the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament since 2007.

They returned with a bang.

Wednesday night in Nashville, the seventh-seeded Redhawks dominated six seed Eastern Kentucky 65-49 to advance to the quarterfinal round. Marland Smith scored 20 points and collected 11 rebounds for the Redhawks. The Colonels were held 28% shooting from the field.

The Redhawks baseball team finished a two-game sweep of Central Arkansas Wednesday afternoon. Brett Russell hit two doubles and belted a home run as Southeast won 10-3. The Redhawks improved to 7-2 with the win.

Powell wins OVC Newcomer of the Week award

Leon Powell keeps racking up the awards for Southeast Missouri State University’s men’s basketball team. The junior forward from St. Louis won the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week Award for the second straight week and for the fourth time this year. 

Powell leads the Redhawks in both scoring and rebounds. He ranks second in the OVC in rebounds per game, and is tied for third in the conference in points per game.
