Cape voters approve wastewater treatment propositions

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KRCU) - Cape Girardeau voters overwhelmingly supported Propositions 1 and 2. Each proposition garnered nearly 80% of the vote.

The Propositions extend a sales tax and authorize the sale of $72 million in bonds for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant.

City officials have long held that passage of both propositions would be the most cost-effective way to build the new wastewater treatment plant. The new plant would meet state and federal wastewater regulations.

Despite passage of the two propositions, city residents can still expect a $23 increase in utility bills on the average.
